About Us
Founded in 1974, SECOND START began offering a tutorial and diagnostic clinic to children with severe disabilities. In 1976, PINE HILL SCHOOL was added to provide a multi-disciplinary, academic and therapeutic program to learning disabled and emotionally troubled children in grades 1-12. Classes for adults were added in July 1988.
Through our proven expertise, we have earned the trust of literally thousands of Bay Area families. The following is a brief summary of our organization and support:
- More than 30 years of Special Education Experience
- A "Work Ability Project Grant" from the State of California
- We are the recipient of the Child Abuse Prevent Grant
- We are a Participant of Stress and Trauma Trust Grant
- We are an Historical Recipient of HUD supportive Grants
Pine Hill is the only nonpublic school in the Silicon Valley/San Jose area that can offer services through Second Start. We are the only organization of our kind which has worked closely with the City of San Jose.
- Assistance with job placement.
- Transition assistance to find and secure independent living, which can include rental assistance.
- Support services such as food or clothing vouchers for students or their families who experience economic difficulties.
- Assistance with transportation for our students.
Our Therapeutic Program, receives the full time Doctoral Supervisors. We have also engaged many interns earning Doctoral Degrees from local Universities. |
