Community Development

Second Start is unique in that it has a history as a community and human service organization promoting economic self-sufficiency for people who have experienced severe social isolation or educational disadvantage. We have work for years seeking assistance from employers, unions, apprenticeship committees, homeless shelters, and human welfare agencies in helping our clients gain portable work skills that will lead to higher paying jobs. This gives us a special perspective on the goals and challenges our kids will have beyond school. It gives us the ability to focus their education in practical ways that no other non-public school has. Ours truly is a relationally based education program.  Many of these children have learning, social and/or behavioral disabilities that are not easily visible. We give them the attention and tools they need to move forward successfully.  

Second Start serves all of Santa Clara County. Over the past 34 years, we have developed and perfected a customized approach to basic education and workforce preparation.
