An expert panel discussion covering the IEP process, how parents can best help their children on an IEP and on advocacy for parents and students. The experts scheduled to talk and answer questions include:

Deidre Hammon of the CSD [Center for Self Determination] Children’s Advocacy Project

Michelle Bumgarner, Esq., of Adams ESQ

Children designated for an IEP can have a wide range of issues including learning disabilities, deafness, behavior problems, Down syndrome and autism. About 8,700 Washoe County students are currently on an IEP. Students on IEPs have a 29 percent graduation rate in Reno-Sparks compared with 63 percent nationally.
